SMVAF News - Sincephetelo soccer team's hat-trick at Inter-Games

11 May, 2015 - For the third consecutive year running, the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund's (SMVAF) soccer team walked away victorious during the annual Inter-Fund Games. Held from 30 April - 3 May at the plush Swakopmund seaside in the Southern part of the Republic of Namibia, the team proved too strong for their opponents once again, drawing the first match 3-all with Namibia, before annihilating Botswana to a 4 - 0 score line and ultimately walking away with the grand prize considering their superior goal difference over their Namibian counterparts who also managed to beat Botswana 5 - 2.

Speaking after lifting the trophy once again, Sincephetelo captain Emmanuel 'General' Ndzinisa commended his charges for their efforts during the matches. "I am extremely proud of the boys for the commitment they displayed throughout the tournament. This is the third time we are winning the cup in a row so I should urge the team to continue training and working hard for these games as we have now become the team to beat," he said. Another gold winning performance was witnessed by the Sincephetelo mixed volleyball team that also swept aside their counterparts with ease. They won the first game against Namibia by 2-1 games before easily overcoming Botswana 2-0.

This is also the second time that the country scoops gold consecutively in this event. Our netball team although gallant in all their performances was not so lucky, clinching third place to a superior Namibia and Botswana teams. Other sports played during the games were 4x100m relay runs as well as tug of war which was unsuccessful as the participating teams failed to adhere to the rules forcing the organising committee to abandon the games. SMVAF CEO Helmon Vilakati during his remarks after the games commended all the participating teams for competing with a spirit of sportsmanship, echoing the words of his counterpart, Namibian MVA Fund CEO Rosalia Martins-Hausiku.

"Although the Namibians took us all by surprise by staging the games at the seaside where we had not anticipated playing on beach sand, I am impressed with the level of professionalism displayed by the teams," he said. As the Fund responsible for hosting the 2016 version of the games, Vilakati also accepted the baton to host and promised that the games would be staged with the deserved attention as displayed by the Namibians. "We are honoured to be given the opportunity to host the games for the second time in our history and we promise that you should brace yourself for a royal experience," Vilakati added.
