The road by its nature is a place of economic activity that is used to transport goods, people and materials from one place to another. The very act of transportation and movement of people has an extended hand in production, chain management and economic growth of a country. For that reason, everyone has decided to set up shop by the peripherals of the road for two reasons, one for proximity to transport but also to attract client and increase their customer baseline. A lot of these shops, were prior, formerly allocated such space in a distance safely removed from the road. However, in the not so distant of times, there has been informal settlement of business along the road. Marketers and vendors have put up structures as close as the yellow line of the road because they want motorists, passengers and pedestrians to be attracted by their wares and ultimately buy from them. This has caused a lot of potential and actual traffic accidents in many ways than one.
PEDESTRAINS FATALITIES
Pedestrians are by far affected by this structures because they are apt to be moving across the road in an attempt to buy from the businesses. Some of these economic hive of activities are placed next to schools whereupon pupils before school, break times and after schools would be compelled to be in the road vicinity to buy stuff. As a result, a lot of them have been hit by speeding motorists who have been errant themselves by not reducing speed when they come to such places-and there has been fatalities. Pedestrians themselves do not behave in the safest traffic manner in their quest to procure goods on either side of the road. It is either they would ignore designated crossing areas and cross the road where it is most dangerous or they will plant the themselves in the course way of vehicles as their attention would be fully on the activity taking place on the road. The informal traders themselves are potentially in danger due to this proximity on the road. Any vehicle that loses control is apt to crash unto the structures and catch them unaware. For that reason and many others, the road reserve, the yellow line and the road course way should remain free of this human and economic occupancy.
UNSAFE TRAFFIC BEHAVIOUR FROM TRADERS
Some of these traders sell the same wares and thus almost always on the habit of competing for customers. No sooner would a vehicle have stopped for whatever reason that they would jump unto the window with their wares. In the quest to sell, they would neglect their traffic responsibility to look on either side so as to ensure they are safe. They would even be selling to passengers in all form of transport mode where upon the driver may not be aware so much that he may set the vehicle in motion and thus injuring the pedestrian trader. Motorists themselves, in the event they are interested in the wares by the road side, have the tendency to pull off the road without proper warning to oncoming and following traffic or may dangerously stop half way and out of the lane. Rear smashes are possible and the flow of traffic is immensely inconvenienced.
