June 16, 2026The Eswatini Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF) continued its public awareness campaign on the recently enacted Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund Act, 2026, through an outreach engagement held at the Siteki Bus Rank.
The outreach provided an opportunity for road users, commuters, public transport operators, and claimants to interact directly with SMVAF representatives, seek assistance, and gain a better understanding of the changes introduced by the new legislation.
A key focus of the engagement was the new 12-month claim lodgement period, which came into effect on 1 July 2026. Under the new Act, road crash survivors are required to lodge their claims within 12 months from the date of the accident.
Speaking on the legislative changes, SMVAF Head of Legal, Senzokuhle Masuku, emphasized the importance of public awareness and timely action to ensure that eligible claimants are able to access benefits provided under the Fund.
The Siteki outreach forms part of SMVAF’s ongoing commitment to bringing services closer to communities while educating the public on their rights and responsibilities under the new legal framework.
Members of the public are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund Act, 2026, and to ensure that claims are submitted within the prescribed timeframe.
SMVAF will continue engaging communities across the country to unpack the new legislation and provide guidance on what the changes mean for road users.
Know your rights. Know the changes. Act within the required timeframe.
