Mbabane – Sincephetelo MVA Fund Acting CEO Max Mkhonta officially launched a caregiver support group earlier today. The event brought together an initial 25 parents and carers who are currently taking care of severely injured clients (claimants) of the MVA Fund. Speaking during the event, Mkhonta acknowledged that many people, other than the actual survivor, are affected by a road crash. “When an accident occurs, the greatest challenge is to accept your situation. As caregivers, we are aware that you play a significant role in helping a crash survivor to accept their condition, post-crash,” Mkhonta noted. “That is why we found it prudent to create a forum where you can occasionally come together to share your experiences.
We have undertaken to listen to your concerns and see how we can avail resources to help you as you take care of your loved ones. We may not be able to take care of all documented needs due to limited resources, but we have made a commitment to walk alongside you during your journey,” he said. Also speaking during the launch was Case Manager, Tengetile Shongwe, who thanked caregivers for being a reliable extension of Sincephetelo MVA Fund. “Your work is well documented and I would just like to add that your work goes beyond what Doctors and nurses do.
Our patients spend less time with Doctors than they do with you. We know a great portion of care and work lies with you. We know what you go through and we really appreciate your efforts,” she said. Meanwhile, Clinical Psychologist Lungile Dube said they normally conduct individual sessions with claimants and caregivers, but they also prefer group sessions, which help clients share experiences, in order to learn new coping strategies, as they listen to what others go through in their journey.
