Theme: Making Walking and Cycling Safe
This Road Safety Week, we shine a vital spotlight on the safety of pedestrians and cyclists — the most vulnerable among all road users.
Each year, millions are spent on compensating victims of road accidents, many of whom were simply walking or cycling to school, work, or home. Behind those numbers are real people — and far too many families left grieving or financially devastated, especially when claim limits fall short and lives are forever changed.
We all have a role to play.
To every motorist:
Slow down. Be vigilant. Give way. Be courteous.
You share the road not only with vehicles, but with people — people on foot and on bicycles — whose only protection is your patience and attention.
To pedestrians and cyclists:
Stay visible. Obey road signs. Use crossings, footpaths, and pedestrian bridges. Wear protective gear when cycling, and avoid distractions like mobile phones.
Safety starts with awareness and responsible behaviour.
Let us also remember — every motorist is a pedestrian at times, and many are cyclists too. The road is a shared space. Respect and empathy must guide how we use it.
This Road Safety Week, let’s work together to make walking and cycling safe — not just in principle, but in practice.
Because behind every safe journey is a life protected.
Drive responsibly. Walk smart. Ride safe.
